Our goal is to produce dogs characterized by sound temperament, high drive, intelligence, trainability, and outgoing personality. We want sensible dogs, gentle around children and other pets, friendly to guests, yet with the courage to handle work with confidence; loyal, loveable, legendary.

Be sure to talk to us about your ideal dog and the characteristics important to you. Based on our knowledge of the parents we will match you first to the pup out of that litter which will best fit your lifestyle. Let us know if you are looking for a family companion dog or a protection dog, we can match up our puppies with you.

Our goals at Mapleview Kennels, centrally located in Connecticut, are to improve the German Shepherd breed through proper genetic trait selectivity and the earliest possible handling and socialization.   We spend hundreds of hours (along with our children) interacting, handling and observing each litter and puppy individually.   We feel that proper early stimulation and interaction with each puppy helps foster high bonding with humans and creates companionship and respect, which logically eases resistance for later advanced training.

We let our pups leave the litter when they are 8 weeks old and crate trained with an updated complete vaccination record and AKC papers.
We produce large boned, beautiful black and tan/sable German Shepherd puppies that have exceptional temperaments.   We consistently produce sound, high bonding companions with super intelligence and strong training drives.   Each puppy we produce has the essential elements and strong bonding instincts to make them sound personal and loving family companions.   Each litter produces some king-size pups and maximum for the standard size pups, never anything less in size or stature.   We do not and would not breed specifically for over sized German Shepherd Dogs, but would not sacrifice the excellent temperament we produce just because only a few puppies in every litter happen to be slightly larger than the standard.   Good breeding is always an educated and well informed balancing act.

A little about the breed:
The German Shepherd Dog is a very strong and alert breed. They have a noble appearance with a strong and chiseled head. They have medium sized eyes that are dark and almond shaped. Their ears are somewhat pointed and open toward the front. They stand very erect when at attention. Their skulls are sloped into a long wedge shaped muzzle. Their noses are black and they have strongly developed jaws with teeth that meet in a scissors bite.

The German Shepherd dog has a strong neck that is muscular and long, but always in proportion to the rest of his body. Their chests are deep and filled out. Their legs are strong and muscular and their feet are short and compact.

German Shepherd Dogs should always be longer than he is tall. The most desirable proportion is 10 to 8 1/2 length in proportion to height. A female German Shepherd Dog should look decidedly female, and a
male German Shepherd Dog should look decidedly male, particularly when you look at their heads.

Today, there are German lines of this breed and American lines. The German lines of the German Shepherd Dog tend to be larger dogs with a broader head and darker coat. Dogs with the American line are typically smaller and have less sloping in their hips, which is a traditional German Shepherd Dog characteristic. American lines also show more silver with black coat coloring, whereas the German lines are nearly always black and tan.
